The Kari Ishad mango grown in Ankola taluk of Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka has been granted Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
Kari Ishad mangoes are famous for their unique aroma, superior taste, rich pulp and size.
These fruits are large and oblong-ovate with usually one fruit per panicle. Its pulp is used to make 48 types of dishes.
Kari Ishad is a thin rind variety with more pulp and sweetness, while Billi Ishad has thicker rind and less pulp and sweetness. Both of these are Ishad mango varieties.
