Kyhytysuka Sachicarum

  • An international team of researchers has discovered a new marine reptile which has been named Kyhytysuka sachicarum. It is an extinct species. They were found in the Earth’s oceans during the Early Cretaceous epoch.
  • Its fossils have been found in the central Colombian region, where, Cuyahutisuka means a sharp bite in local language. It has been named 'Kyahyutisuka Sachikarum' in honor of the ancient Muisca culture that has existed in this area for thousands of years.
  • An important feature of its preserved fossil is the one meter long skull, which is being seen as the last living 'Ichthyosaur'. Ichthyosaurs were ancient animals that appeared similar to modern swordfish.
