The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) organized 'Manak Mahotsav' on the occasion of World Standards Day on 14 October. Its theme was 'Standards for the Sustainable Development Goals - a shared vision for a better world'.
The day is observed to commemorate the contribution of experts in developing voluntary technical agreements published in the form of international standards that make consumers, policy makers and businesses aware of the importance of standardisation.
It is noteworthy that the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is a national standards body under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution which was established under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
The objective of BIS is to coordinate development of activities of standardization of goods, product testing and quality certification in the country.
