Mpox

WHO releases strategic framework for prevention and control of Mpox.
MPox was formerly known as monkeypox.
It is a zoonosis, which spreads from animals to humans.
Squirrels, Gambian pouched rats, dormice, monkeys etc. are carriers of this virus.
This infectious disease is caused by monkeypox virus (MPXV).
- It is a species of Orthopoxvirus genus.
- This virus was first identified in monkeys in the year 1958.
It is spread to humans through physical contact with an infected person, contaminated foods, or infected animals.
Its symptoms are body rashes, enlarged lymph nodes, fever etc.
