Nagi and Nakati Bird Sanctuaries are two new Ramsar sites

  • Nagi and Nakati Bird Sanctuaries were recognized as Ramsar sites.
  • Both these man-made wetlands are located in Jamui, Bihar.
  • With their inclusion in the Ramsar Convention, the number of these sites in India has increased to 82.
  • Ramsar Convention is an inter-governmental treaty.
    • It provides a framework for the conservation of wetlands and their rational use.
    • It was adopted on 2 February 1971 in the city of Ramsar, Iran.
    • It came into force in India in the year 1982.
    • Under this, wetlands of international importance were declared Ramsar sites.
