  • New Criminal Codes/Laws
  • Three new criminal laws have come into force from July 1.
  • These new laws were passed in December, 2023.
  • Changed laws:
    • Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860 now Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023
    • Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), 1973 now Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023
    • Indian Evidence Act (IEA), 1872 now Bharatiya Sakshya Act (BSA), 2023
  • The new laws will not affect investigation and trial in cases registered before July 1.
