NexCAR19 CAR-T Therapy

  • President Draupadi Murmu launched the country's first indigenous anti-cancer CAR-T cell therapy NexCAR19.
  • It has been prepared jointly by IIT Bombay and Tata Memorial Centre.
  • This therapy is a form of immunotherapy and gene therapy.
    • In this, T cells (immune cells) are made stronger.
    • These T-cells attack cancer cells.
  • This treatment will be comparatively very cheap in India.
    • The cost of this treatment abroad is approximately ₹ 4 crore.
    • This treatment will be possible in India for approximately ₹ 30 lakh.
