The Overhauser Magnetometer is a magnetometer developed by the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG). This will reduce the cost of samples and sensing experiments required for geomagnetic sampling.
It will also potentially provide assistance in understanding the underlying mechanism of dynamic nuclear polarization and in developing sensitive magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment.
It is designed for high accuracy, high sensitivity and efficient power consumption. That is why it is widely used by all magnetic observatories globally.
The working performance of this indigenously manufactured magnetometer is similar to that of a commercial Overhauser magnetometer sensor. Earlier it was imported by India.
