'Parvo virus' is a highly contagious viral disease. It affects the intestines of dogs, which can be fatal.
Dogs suffering from this disease mainly show symptoms such as bloody diarrhea, vomiting, dehydration and lethargy. The mortality rate due to its infection is about 90%.
It is spread through contact with infected dogs, their excreta and infected objects. People caring for infected dogs can also be carriers of this virus.
There is currently no cure for this disease, but the ability to fight the virus can be developed in dogs by vaccinating them at an early age.
In recent times its effect has been seen in Uttrakhand, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh etc. It is noteworthy that the B19 type of parvo virus affects only humans. It is also called 'fifth disease'.
