  • Punjab Agricultural University has developed a new wheat variety PBW RS 1.
  • Due to high amylose starch content it reduces the risk of type-2 diabetes and heart diseases.
  • Foods made from it regulate the level of glucose in the bloodstream. Also, due to slow digestion it helps in combating obesity.
  • This variety of wheat is resistant against yellow and brown rust fungal diseases, although its productivity is less than other varieties of wheat.
