Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has launched Project Re-Hab to control incidents of Human-Elephant conflict.
In this project bee fences will be installed to reduce human elephant conflict so that elephants cannot enter human settlements. It is believed that elephants are psychologically afraid of bees.
The project has been started in four locations around village Chellur in Kodagu district of Karnataka. These areas are located on the outskirts of Nagarhole National Park and Tiger Sanctuary. It is important to note that every year around 500 people are killed in elephant attacks in India.
Project Re-Hab is a submission under the National Honey Mission by KVIC. The Honey Mission is a national project to increase the income of bee keepers by increasing the number of bees and amount of honey production.
