It is a festival celebrated in Kerala during the Malayalam month of Medom (April–May).
Pooram covers ten temples in and around Thrissur and Thrissur Pooram is considered above all other festivals. It was started by Maharaja Rama Varma (1790–1805) of Cochin.
The festival is centered on the Vadakkunnathan temple where a procession is sent to pay obeisance to Lord Shiva.
A huge parade is organized in the temple premises with chenda melam and pancha vadyam music.
