Thyreus narendrani, is a new species of cuckoo bee, which has been discovered from Kole wetlands region of Kerala.
It belongs to the family Apidae of order Hymenoptera. The genus Thyreus includes the cuckoo bees or cleptoparasitic bees.
Cuckoo bees lay eggs in the nests of other bees and live as parasite. These bees mostly parasitise on the bees of genus Amegilla and Anthophora.
Unlike other female bees, they do not have pollen-collecting structures. It is named after late T.C. professor Narendran who contributed to the field of Entomology.
