Varnika

  • Reserve Bank of India Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has set up an ink manufacturing unit- 'Varnika' in Mysore. RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has dedicated this unit to the nation.
  • It has an annual ink manufacturing capacity of 1,500 metric tons. The main objective of its establishment is to increase the security of the country's banknotes. This unit will promote the 'Make in India' initiative of the government.
  • This unit will ensure that the ink required for printing of banknotes is completely manufactured within the country. It is also manufacturing Color Shift Intaglio Ink (CSII). This will bring down the cost and make India more self-reliant in the production of banknote printing ink.
  • It is worth mentioning that B.R.B.N.M.P.L. Prints all Indian banknotes and was established in the year 1995 to meet the growing demand for coins and banknotes.
