Xylophaga Nandani

  • A team of researchers has discovered a new species of mollusc, Xylophaga Nandani, in the eastern Arabian Sea. It belongs to the Xylophagaidae family.
  • This rare species of mollusc is found in the deep sea. The size of these organisms is very small. They live on the wood lying in the sea.
  • With the help of their shell, they cut the wood into fine particles and consume these particles as food.
  • This discovery is important because it is the first time that a member of the genus Xylophaga has been discovered in the Arabian Sea.
